Sam Halsall scored a spectacular try to help Newcastle Thunder beat Widnes Vikings in the Betfred Championship on Monday night.

Thunder overcame the Vikings 12-6 at Kingston Park with Halsall – playing on dual-registration – diving over in the corner for a wonderful first half touchdown.

Abbas Miski and Brad O’Neill also played on dual-registration for Newcastle, while loanee Matty Nicholson featured in the back row.

Also in the Betfred Championship, loanee James McDonnell featured for Leigh Centurions in their 44-0 win over Dewsbury Rams on Friday night.

Second rower McDonnell scored a try in the victory at Leigh Sports Village.
