Thomas Leuluai was ultimately happy to take the win on Thursday night, though admits that the Warriors can learn a lot from a challenging game at the DW Stadium.

“It was a different kind of win, they really challenged us. I thought we did what we needed to do tonight, there’s still a few things we need to work on but all in all we are happy with the result.”

He added: “It’s a different style of game and you have to adapt to it. I think we got the style right but there were a few errors that put us under pressure and maybe made us have to earn it a bit more than we needed to and stopped the flow of the game but when that happens we deal with it and get on with it.”

Jai Field has been in fine form in the opening two rounds, but it was Liam Farrell who stole the limelight against Huddersfield with a fine brace of tries. Speaking on Wigan’s talent, Leuluai said: “We’ve got some talented players who have had a really good start to the season, but people will be watching that and looking to cut down their involvements in the game. We’re quite lucky at the Club that we have so many good players that can affect the game, it was someone else’s turn this week.”

Asked about Va’aiga Tuigamala, Leuluai said: “When you see the messages you can tell that he must have had a big effect on this town and the Club for Wigan, every message is positive and about how good of a person he was, not just on the field but off it too. A big part of the Club and I think he touched a lot of people when he came over here and played – it’s a credit to him and what he has done but it’s a sad time for the Club and we send our love and prayers over to his friends and family.”

Wigan’s Samoan winger, Va’aiga Tuigamala, heads for the try line in a league match at Central Park against Oldham on Sunday 27th of November 1994. Wigan won 46-0.

Finally, the Warriors scrum half looked ahead to Wigan’s ‘Tour de France’ as they take on Toulouse Olympique and Catalans Dragons back to back: “We’re looking forward to it, both games back to back so we’ve got a 10-day stay, it’s a good chance for us to get even closer as a group and I’m sure Matt has some things planned up his sleeve for us to do there.”

“If we come away from these 10-days and we’ve attacked it with a positive attitude and thrown it into those two games it sets us off to a really good start to the season, but on the flip side of that if we go there and don’t get the results it may nullify what we have done at the start. It’s a very important time for the season, Matt will make that clear but we go there with a positive attitude and try and play some good rugby over there.”
