Injury update

  • Ethan Havard remains on course for a return in mid-March,
  • Peet confirms that Iain Thornley could be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.
  • Wigan Warriors v Leeds Rhinos, Friday 18th February (8pm K.O.)

In partnership with Blindspot Global, we have the latest from Head Coach Matt Peet on current injury concerns ahead of round 2.

Ethan Havard continues his return to action, Peet explained: “Ethan is due back in March. We go to France for a couple of weeks and after Catalans we play Castleford so we’re thinking in or around that game we can expect him available. We’ve got a reserve game around that time too that hopefully we can get him into.”

Iain Thornley will be sidelined after leaving the field in the early stages of last week’s fixture at Hull KR. Peet gave a further update: “He’s got a grade two syndesmosis, so we’re looking at around two months, which is really upsetting for Iain personally – he’s worked extremely hard in pre-season and he was one of the shining lights. On a personal level, I’m disappointed for him, he gave himself the best chance of hitting the ground running in the season.”

He added: “In 6-8 weeks’ time he’ll be back and like a new player for us so it’s up to those lads in the meantime to make a claim for a shirt.”

Matt Peet named his 21-player squad for Friday’s fixture against Leeds Rhinos.
