Willie Isa insists that Wigan want to transfer their hard work and team spirit from pre-season into their round one fixture against Hull KR this Friday.

“To be honest it’s been positive since day one. We’ve got new Coaching staff and they’ve come up with new ideas, they’ve been great for us in showing clarity,” Isa said.

“The main thing for us, is we know what we want out of this year, we want to show that we work hard, show a team first mentality and go off that. The last two weeks have been good for the boys, especially the young lads who got some game time as well. We’re looking forward to next week now.”

As pre-season comes to a close with preparations for round one of the Betfred Super League the main focus for Wigan, Isa said: “It sounds very clichéd but we’ll take each game as it comes. It’s early in the season but I think we’re all looking forward to it. It’s just making sure we keep practicing well in training and transferring that into games.

“I’m sure the boys are looking forward to it, we’ve got a young, youthful group – along with some senior players in the mix as well, so it’s a good blend for a group. In their character as well, they’re a very enthusiastic group.”

Isa expressed that the Warriors are keen to set a platform for themselves early: “Its 2022, it’s a new group, new set up and I think we just want to start well, especially off the back of the two friendlies. We’re looking to build, we need round one to set a platform for us to go off, we’ll see where we’re at. Training has been good, we do well as a group and make sure we support each other each and every day.”

The Warriors number 11 looked ahead to the next few days before the trip to Hull KR: “There’s nothing different, the coaches goal is making sure they’ve implemented us as a playing group to improve every day, and every day is a training day so nothing really changes, we’ve just got a game at the end now. Pre-season has been healthy for everyone and we’re looking forward to making sure we work hard continuously, continue to improve and see how it goes against Hull KR.”
