Warriors launch charity third kit

Wigan Warriors and Technical Kit Partner Hummel are delighted to launch a special charity third kit for the 2022 season and the Club’s 150th year – in partnership with Cancer Research UK.

Together, the Club and Cancer Research UK have created a charity kit which will be worn as an alternative kit for several games throughout 2022.

Featuring Cancer Research UK’s logo on the front of the shirt, £5 from every shirt sold will be donated to the charity.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. And the charity’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives. The charity supports research into all aspects of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Cancer touches so many people’s lives. In August last year, Wigan Warriors were deeply saddened to learn of the passing The Riversiders Supporters Club treasurer, Barbara Thompson. Barbara was involved with The Riversiders for over 30 years – going back to Wigan’s Central Park days – and ran the Club’s Past Players Association. She sadly passed away with breast cancer.

In her honour, Wigan Warriors would like to pay tribute to Barbara with this new third shirt.

Executive Director, Kris Radlinski, said: “As a Club and community, we were deeply moved by Barbara’s passing. She was a huge part of the Wigan Warriors family and she will always remain with us as we pay tribute to her with this special shirt.

“I am proud we are doing this for Barbara and for all those who have been affected by cancer. I know this shirt and story will be relatable to so many people. We are also honouring Barbara by making her a posthumous Life Member of Wigan Warriors.

“We are really proud of the partnership we have formed with Cancer Research UK to create this amazing shirt. Throughout the year we will be having more fundraising events and our goal is to make a real difference.”

“I love the fact we are doing this,” said Leadership and Management Director, Shaun Wane. “I’m proud. I lost my mum and brother to cancer. The more people who get behind and recognise it the better. I know it will touch many people in the Wigan area.”

Rachael Hodgkinson from Cancer Research UK, said: “We are really excited about working in partnership with Wigan Warriors. Together with its partners and supporters, Cancer Research UK’s vision is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. And we know Wigan Warriors supporters will get on board in that mission to help make a big difference over the coming months.”

The first time the third kit will be worn by the Warriors first team will be the away fixture at Toulouse Olympique on Saturday 5th March. It will also be worn for the Catalans Dragons game a week later as well as the Magic Weekend fixture against St Helens on Saturday 9th July.

The limited edition 2022 replica third shirt, shorts and socks are now on sale and available to buy online HERE.

With World Cancer Day taking place on Friday 4th February and it being Cancer Research UK’s 20th anniversary on the same day, the new third strip will be available to buy in-Store at Robin Park Arena from 10am that day. The Club Store is open 10am-4pm every Monday-Saturday, with click and collect also available.

The third shirt is available in all sizes (from 0-6 months up to 8XL), each priced at £49.99 for Adults and £34.99 for Juniors. Please note that there are no discounts on this shirt due to the charitable element attached to it. Mini kits are priced at £34.99 each and, as in previous years, are without the main sponsor logo because of space constraints. Name and number printing on shirt are available for £12.

Inside the neck, the third shirt includes the squad No.18 to pay tribute to the squad number given to Wigan’s loyal fans.

Following Wednesday’s announcement of the Club’s new Principal Partner, the third shirt features the logo of Open Exchange. The playing kit also includes the logos of Technical Partner, Hummel, together with Official Kit Partners The Skinny Food Co, Davanti Tyres, Loch Lomond Whiskies, Fit Remuneration Consultants, Node4, CRS, Pall Mall Carpets and Blindspot Global.

A reminder that all replica shirts (home, away and third) will now contain the Open Exchange logo on the front.

To support Cancer Research UK, Wigan Warriors have set up a Just Giving SuperTeam page. SuperTeam pages are a way to collectively see donations for multiple fundraising activities.
