Wigan’s U19s win in Wakefield

  • Match report as Wigan’s Under-19s score a late try to win in Wakefield.
  • Hat-trick from Joe Robinson helps young Warriors to victory on Thursday night.
  • FT | Wakefield Trinity U19s 12-18 Wigan Warriors U19s.

A 78th minute try from Harvie Hill saw Wigan Warriors Under-19s snatch a win in Wakefield on Thursday night as Joe Robinson grabbed a hat-trick at the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

The young Warriors went into the game off the back of a victory against Warrington, but it wasn’t the start they were looking for against Wakefield as the home side went over for the game’s opening try in the fourth minute.

Wigan soon responded as Robinson darted over, but Trinity went back ahead just after the 10th minute with their second try.

Just before half time, Wigan’s Hill was sent to the sin-bin and the Warriors went into the break trailing 12-4.

Despite the extra man, Wakefield were unable to capitalise early in the second half and on the hour mark Wigan came fighting back as Robinson dived over for his second of the night.

Eight minutes later, Robinson ran in his third try to draw his team level at 12-12 with just 12 minutes to go.

And in the 78th minute, Wigan took the lead for the first time in the game as prop forward Hill powered over, which was enough to steal victory for the Warriors. Alex Sutton converted the goal and the Cherry and Whites went away 18-12 winners.
