Havard: Definitely improved

  • Havard: “You can see from the start of the season to now we have definitely improved.”

Wigan will be aiming to ‘get one back’ over Hull KR when the two meet on Friday evening, according to Ethan Havard.

The Cherry and Whites take on the Robins for the second time this season when the two meet at Hull College Craven Park, with the Humberside club having come out on top back in June.

Speaking to Wigan TV ahead of the game, the young forward discussed the threats Rovers pose.

“We want to get one back over them. They’re a tough side to prep for. They throw the ball well and have got some good outside backs.

“You’ve got to be on – on every single play – in attack and defence.”

With Wigan having to deal with a number of injuries this season, there’s been lots of reshuffling in the forward pack; creating more opportunities for young players.

“If we’re lacking in experience, we make that up with enthusiasm. What we might lose with older players, we gain with the younger lads.

“Experience comes with playing week on week. You can see from the start of the season to now we have definitely improved.”

Havard highlighted the extra dimensions of play the youngsters have brought, with Kai Pearce-Paul in particular and his offloading skills.

“It’s a good thing to have – that second phase play. It can really improve your attack and it brings that unpredictably. They [Hull KR] use it well, so we are looking to snuff it out early on Friday.”
