Adrian Lam praised the ‘resilient’ performance of his young Wigan side in beating Huddersfield Giants away from home on Friday evening.

The Warriors made it two-from-two against Ian Watson’s men inside a week with the victory at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Speaking to the media following the full time whistle, the Warriors head coach gave his immediate reaction to the result.

“It was a really tough game, but I’m just pleased that with five teenagers in the team, we’ve come away with the win.

Liam Farrell’s try made the difference for Wigan as they earned two points away from home.

“I’m really pleased with the resilience that they showed. It’s one of the better wins I’ve had as a coach.”

Lam also explained how he hoped this win may prove a turning point for his side.

“We’ve been down on confidence, so with Sunday’s win and now this one, this is a massive injection of confidence. We were back to a lot of Wigan ways in terms of work ethic and effort.”

There was particular praise for young outside back Sam Halsall, who in his second first team game put in a solid performance on the right wing.

“In the changing room after the game we’ve been calling him ‘Sam ‘the bank’ Halsall, because he was so safe under the high ball.”

The Warriors head coach also provided an update on players carrying injuries following the game.

“We lost Joe Shorrocks early in the game, but he came back on which was a bonus. We will check the damage to his knee tomorrow.”
