Gildart: Give it our all

  • Oliver Gildart previews Wigan’s Betfred Super League clash with St Helens.
  • Gildart: “It’s going to be a great challenge for us, it’s all about who wants it more on the day.”
  • St Helens v Wigan Warriors, Sun 4th July, Totally Wicked Stadium, 7:30pm K.O.

Oliver Gildart believes Wigan must do ‘everything they can’ in order to triumph over rivals St Helens on Sunday night.

The two clubs have yet to meet in 2021 so far, and last faced off in the rollercoaster 2020 Betfred Super League Grand Final last November.

Speaking to Wigan TV ahead of Sunday’s fixture, the Wigan centre discussed their recent form.

“I hate losing and so does everyone here. But we’ve been in worse situations and I’m really confident in the team we have here.”

Gildart has scored three in the two games he has featured in since returning to action in 2021.

On facing St Helens: “We will be doing everything we can to turn it around and put smiles on faces by putting in a good team performance.

“It’s going to be a great challenge for us, it’s all about who wants it more on the day.”

The two clubs will arrive at the Totally Wicked Stadium having had very different lengths of time to prepare. St Helens have gone almost three weeks without taking to the field, while Wigan last played on Wednesday.

On the varying turnarounds: “We are going to have a few sore bodies, we know that, but you also can’t ask for a bigger game to get up for than St Helens.

“They’ve had nearly three weeks off, and sometimes that isn’t the best preparation either.

“But form goes out the window in these games. If you don’t get up for games like these then you shouldn’t be at this club.”
