Jackson Hastings has reflected openly and honestly on Wigan Warriors’ defeat to Warrington Wolves on Wednesday night, stating there are ‘no excuses’ and that his team ‘need to be better’.

The Warriors fell down 14-40 at the DW Stadium – the team’s fourth consecutive loss in the Betfred Super League.

Hastings, who provided assists for two of Wigan’s three tries on the night, said: “We are obviously not happy with where we are at. We understand we need to be way better but we also have to be aware that we have seven young kids that are trying to find their way, whilst learning some hard valuable lessons – as we all are as a team.

“The easy option would be to blame injuries, but as this Club it’s unacceptable to have any excuses for poor results and we need to be better.

“Once more players return, we know our team will be better for it.

“No matter how we are travelling at the moment, please understand that each week myself, my teammates and the staff will turn up and give it our best, and ultimately turn it around.

“On a personal note, I want to thank the fans for the encouraging messages and for the ones that turn up to the DW every week. Your support and passion doesn’t go unnoticed and I will be doing everything in my power to make you proud week-in-week-out.”

Next up for Wigan is St Helens in the derby at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday.

On facing Saints, Hastings said: “It’s not ideal we are playing them on a three-day turnaround, but these are the challenges you live for – playing the best team in the competition at their home ground in front of their fans. It’s something that excites us as a group and one we are certainly looking to win.”
