Lam previews Warrington

  • Head coach Adrian Lam looks ahead to Wigan’s Betfred Super League fixture against Warrington.
  • Lam: “It will be a great test for us.”
  • Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves, Wed 30th June, DW Stadium, K.O. 7:45pm.

Adrian Lam will be looking for a response from his players when they take on Warrington Wolves this Wednesday at the DW Stadium.

The Cherry and Whites hope to bounce back from defeat last week at the hands of Wakefield Trinity when they welcome the The Wire on Wednesday (K.O. 7:45pm).

Speaking to the media on Monday ahead of the fixture, Lam begun by discussing the opposition.

“We’ve had a bit of success against Warrington in recent times.

“But they are playing some great rugby at the moment so it will be a great test for us. I’m looking forward to the response on how we turn up on Wednesday night.”

Following Sunday’s sad news that winger Dom Manfredi has decided to retire at the end of the 2021 season due to medical advice, Lam gave his thoughts on the matter.

“It’s obviously upsetting for everyone involved. It’s a decision he’s made on his own, after being shown the medical evidence. He’s still got this year, so we hope to get some success and send him off in the right way.”

Manfredi will retire at the end of the 2021 season.

Unfortunately, there was more injury news to discuss, with Bevan French now being ruled out for the rest of the 2021 season following surgery to a torn hamstring. Learn more HERE.

Announcing the news, Lam said: “He’s going to miss the rest of the season. He’s had the operation, and as a club it’s difficult but we’ve got to move forward. He’s gone back to Australia to do his rehab and to spend some much needed time with his family.

“The good news is that he’s taken his option to remain at the club for the 2022 season.”

Lam also updated on players likely to miss out through injury this week, begining with Zak Hardaker.

“He’s formed an issue with the vertebrae in his neck and top of his back. it’s causing some pins and needles in other areas which isn’t good. At the moment he’s gonna be at least another two or three weeks out because of that issue. It’s a very dangerous place so we have to be cautious, and it might mean more recovery afterwards.”

On John Bateman, who left the field on England duty with an ankle concern: “He’s getting some scans today so we should know more soon.”
