  • The Warriors scored five tries to take the victory on Sunday afternoon.
  • FT | Wigan Warriors Women 22-8 Castleford Tigers Women.

Georgia Wilson scored a double as Wigan recorded a 22-8 victory over Castleford Tigers Women on Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten in the 2021 Betfred Women’s Super League.

There were also scores for Rachel Thompson, Carys Marsh and Emily Baggaley as the Cherry and Whites grabbed their first ever win over Castleford to make it four from four in the league.

It was an arm wrestle in the early stages but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock after six minutes with Lacey Owen going in on the right edge, the conversion unsuccessful for 0-4..

Both teams continued to battle hard through a stale period but it was the Warriors next on the scoresheet, Becky Greenfield putting a well-timed grubber through for Wilson to collect and go in at the corner, converting her own score from out wide for 6-4.

The Warriors were in again in the 24th minute, Freya Hellin ran some great yards through the middle to get Wigan up field, Thompson finding some space to go over after fooling the Tigers defence, Wilson’s conversion went just wide of the uprights but Wigan had the 10-4 lead.

Castleford responded quickly, a kick and chase from Georgia Roche found Shona Hoyle to send Hollie Mae Dodd over from close range, the conversion from Tara Jane Stanley was missed again to keep Wigan ahead by two. The Warriors were camped on the Castleford line just short of half time, but the pressure could only amount to a goal line drop out to see the Warriors in at 10-8 at the break.

Castleford found themselves down to 12 just a minute into the second half as Lucy Eastwood was sent to the sin bin for holding down in the tackle, the Warriors making the most of the opportunity with Carys Marsh crashing over to put Wigan to 14-8.

Wilson grabbed her second of the game in the 51st minute, linking up well with Thompson on the right edge to sneak in at the corner, the touchline conversion from the right touchline was just short.

Baggaley added to Wigan’s tally just moments later, Wilson making 30 meters before the ball found the supporting Baggaley on the right edge to go over. The conversion was short again but Wigan led 22-8.

The Warriors were put under pressure on a few occasions by the Tigers but fantastic defence from Wigan meant that Castleford failed to put a point on the board in the second half. Strong defence saw the 22-8 victory confirmed to keep Wigan unbeaten in the 2021 Betfred Women’s Super League.
