Morgan Smithies is targeting a big reaction in Wigan’s next fixture against Huddersfield Giants.
The Warriors have no match this coming weekend, allowing them plenty of time to prepare for the challenge of Huddersfield following thier defeat to Catalans last time around.
Speaking to Wigan TV, Smithies said: “A result like that, it’s just given us time to look at ourselves in the mirror, dust ourselves down and get ready to go again.
“We’ll have a big reaction going into that Huddersfield game [on Friday 11th June] and I’m really looking forward to it.”
The young forward started the game against Catalans in the less familiar position of second row, as he has done in previous matches this season.
Speaking on the switch, he said: “I don’t mind it to be honest, it’s something different. It’s another layer I can add to my game, another position, so I’m just happy to be starting for the team.”
If selected, Smithies will make his 50th appearance for the Warriors in Yorkshire next week, a milestone that he hasn’t yet got his head around.
“It’s come around quick. I’m only 20, in my third season, but it doesn’t seem two minutes ago since my debut so to be reaching 50 games in my next game, it’s quite mad really.
“Since making my debut, I thought I’d have just played a few games and then maybe gone back down to the U19s.
“But full credit to Lammy [Adrian Lam], he kept me up at the first team with the boys so I’m really grateful for that.”
