Captain’s quotes

Speaking with wiganwarriors.com, Wigan Women’s captain Rachel Thompson says that the team have to focus on themselves and not their opponents as they prepare to face Huddersfield this weekend.

“I think we needed the rest after the Challenge Cup, the game against York was a very physical one and I think we all felt the aftermath of that. No one wants the time off, but I think our bodies will definitely have benefited from the recovery. A few of the girls took knocks and had been carrying a few niggles, so this time has been a blessing to them to try and get sorted.

Thompson in action in Wigan’s last game – v York in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup.

“The girls are eager to get back out there and are really looking forward to facing Huddersfield this weekend. I think we learnt a lot in the last game and it was good to have a competitive match. We know we need to be better and we know we can be better.

“Huddersfield are one of the new teams to the Super League this year so we don’t really know what to expect from them, so we haven’t focused on them too much. We’ve worked on ourselves, getting better at things we need to individually, and as a team. We’re looking forward to just getting out there and putting in a good team performance.”
