Academy off to winning start

Wigan Warriors Under-19s scored ten tries to win comfortably at Bradford Bulls on Friday night as they returned to action after 14 months away.

With all Academy games postponed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Wigan got 2021 underway off to a winning 48-16 start at Bradford’s Horsfall Community Stadium.

A brace from Zach Eckersley and touchdowns from Tom Former and Jack Taylor saw the young Warriors take an eight-point lead into half time.

Wigan then raced away in the second half with six tries; Keiron Wilkinson, Alex Sutton, Umyla Hanley, Logan Astley, Matty Nicholson and Toby Brannan all getting on the scoresheet.

There were also goal conversions for Eckersley, Wilkinson and two from Hanley to complete the 48-16 victory.
