Adrian Lam expects Thursday’s Betfred Super League clash with Hull FC to be a ‘tough battle’ when the two meet at the DW Stadium (K.O. 7:45pm).

Both clubs have reached Round 5 without facing defeat, with the Warriors winning all four of their league games and the Black and Whites picking up three victories and a draw.

Speaking to the media in his weekly press conference on Monday afternoon, the Papua New Guinean discussed the challenge that Brett Hodgson’s side pose.

“They look connected as a group, they are defending much better than they have done in previous seasons. They’ve got some great talent that can hurt you.

“It’s going to be a physical game and I’m sure it’ll be close. It’ll be a tough battle for us and we’re looking forward to that challenge.”

The tie will be Wigan’s second game of the season at the DW Stadium, having won last week against Castleford Tigers. After spending the majority of the last 12 months on the road, the Warriors head coach explained how a big focus for 2021 would be home form.

“It’s a home game for us and we want to make it a fortress.”

Wigan returned to the DW Stadium for the first time in 2021 last Thursday, beating Castleford Tigers in the process.

Lam also provided an update on his players ahead of Tuesday’s 21-man squad announcement.

“It will most likely be the same squad as last week. We won’t be rushing any players back who are getting close to being ok.

On winger Dom Manfredi, who missed out last week after taking a knock to a pre-existing hand injury: “He looked like he may have been alright this week, but we feel it’s not something to rush into.

“We’ve got to make sure he’s absolutely right when he plays. We understand just how important he is to us, but we must air on the side of caution.”
