Stating his side will give York City Knights “the respect they deserve” on Friday night, Warriors youngster Joe Shorrocks believes the Third Round Betfred Challenge Cup tie is another opportunity to improve on the two league wins so far in 2021.

The Cherry and Whites are set to face York for the first time in 35 years as the two go head-to-head for a place in the Quarter-Finals of the Cup.

Speaking to Wigan TV this week, 21-year-old Shorrocks said: “We want to keep improving week-on-week and Friday is another chance to improve from Thursday. We have to give every team the respect they deserve.”

After coming off the bench in both of Wigan’s Betfred Super League games so far this season, Shorrocks hopes he can remain part of the team throughout the year and admits he will play anywhere to suit the team.

“Personally, I’m pleased to be involved in both games so far.

“Just as many games as possible for myself. Now I’m in the team, hopefully I can keep that spot and stay in all year.

“I prefer to play loose forward, but I don’t mind doing a role if the team needs it – I’ll play anywhere.”
