Wigan Warriors head coach Adrian Lam has confirmed that Jai Field will be out for “five months” after suffering a hamstring injury in Friday’s Round 1 game against Leigh Centurions.

Lam revealed the extent of the injury in Monday’s pre-match press conference – ahead of Thursday’s Betfred Super League game with Wakefield Trinity.

The Wigan boss provided the bad news as Field picked up a hamstring injury in the 19th minute on his debut for the Club – falling awkwardly as he attempted to make a break on the right wing at Emerald Headingley Stadium.

Field left the pitch on Friday after suffering a hamstring injury.

Lam said: “Sadly we’ve got the news that it’s as worse as it gets. He’s had a complete tear of the hamstring and he’s going to be out for five months plus.

“It’s sad news for the Club, Jai and his family and we’ve just got to make sure we get around him and help him through this process. It’ll go fast and he’ll be back soon enough.”
