  • Sam Powell with the only try for the Cherry and Whites.

Wigan came up short in their pre-season friendly against Salford at the AJ Bell Stadium, losing 20-6.

Despite a solitary first half try from hooker Sam Powell, the Warriors were not able to kick on in the second half to keep up with the scoring of the Red Devils.

The home side were the first to strike through Kallum Watkins in the 21st minute. The centre pounced on a loose ball, dribbling it into the end zone from ten meters to touch down.

Wigan bagged their first of the afternoon shortly after, with quick thinking from hooker Powell taking the ball from dummy half to score under the posts.

It wasn’t long before Salford hit back through Ken Sio. The winger latched onto a grubber from Tui Lolohea in the 31st minute. The score at half time, 12-6 to the Red Devils.

The second half saw plenty of changes for both sides and resulted in some disjointed spells with the ball.

Skirmishes from both Wigan and Salford never materialised into points until the 64th minute, when ex-Wiganer Morgan Escare crossed in the corner.

The Red Devils struck again four minutes from full time through winger Krisnan Inu, diving over in the corner.
