On this day – 19th February

Look back on Wigan’s momentous World Club Challenge victory of 2017.

On 19th February in 2017, the Warriors hosted the reigning NRL champions Cronulla Sharks in the annual World Club Challenge.

Always a highlight of the global Rugby League calendar, the one-off game pits Super League’s best against the NRL’s best to see who will be crowned the greatest club side on the planet.

After beating Warrington Wolves in the 2016 Grand Final 12-6, Wigan earned the right to host Cronulla at the DW Stadium the following February.

What unfolded was a phenominal performance from the Cherry and Whites, brushing aside their Aussie counterparts thanks to a Joe Burgess hat-trick and some robust defensive efforts.

There was also a try from Oliver Gildart, two goals from Morgan Escare and one for Sam Powell. The final score, 22-6.
