Winter Warrior virtual sessions: Part 2

  • Community Foundation set to deliver second Winter Warrior virtual session on Saturday.
  • An hour-hour long session working on Rugby League skills and taking part in fun fitness.
  • All participants should have received a Zoom code for the virtual call.

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are set to deliver a second virtual training session this Saturday as part of the 2021 Winter Warrior programme.

Last Saturday saw the first session take place as the Foundation ran an hour-long session on Zoom with over 200 children aged 5-11 joining the call.

Like last week, the call will begin at 10:30am on 13th February and the virtual sessions will be led by Foundation staff and volunteers.

Working on a variety of Rugby League skills and taking part in hand and eye coordination challenges and fun fitness, the training sessions are an add on for all the participants who signed up to the original Winter Warrior programme which was suspended due to the current Covid-19 lockdown.

Layton Semmens, a Warriors fan who plays for Wigan St Judes Under-11s team, took part in last Saturday’s training session. He said: “I really loved the Winter Warrior Zoom training! We had loads of fun. I’ve really missed playing rugby, but this has helped me train again.

“My two-year-old little brother joined in too! The sessions were really fun and interesting, and we are both really looking forward to this weekend’s session.”

Wigan Warriors Community engagement officer, Tom Marsh, said: “We were delighted with how everyone engaged with the coaches during last week’s session.

Tom Marsh was part of the Community Foundation staff who delivered last week’s session.

“The sessions are catered for boys and girls, aged 5-11, and there was a really high skill level on show – it was great to see everyone competing.”

Community development officer, Danny Fullerton, added: “We were really impressed with everyone’s effort during last Saturday’s session – it was great to see so many children taking part and having fun.

“This is a great opportunity to engage with the Winter Warrior participants and have some fun during these difficult times. We are all looking forward to this week’s session where there will be even more fun challenges.”
