Warriors spread festive cheer

Wigan Warriors winger Liam Marshall visited Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (WWL) Rainbow Ward on Friday to spread a bit of festive cheer; however, it was a little different this year.

Armed with Christmas selection boxes, Marshall and staff from the Club took some time out to have a socially distanced chat with staff and patients from the Rainbow Ward at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.  

All first team players and coaching staff, as well as students from the Wigan Warriors Education Academy, donated over 150 chocolate selection boxes to give to the children in the Rainbow Ward.

The handover of the donation was held by WWL’s Tree of Hope which was lit up in cherry and white in honour of the Club’s visit. 

Marshall said: “Any kid who is in hospital at this time of the year, as with any year, is tough, but this year more so than others due to the limited family visits and the fewer things they have been able to do.

“The fact we can give something back and put a smile on some of the kids’ faces is great. Chocolate is what all the kids love, so just to brighten up their day is brilliant. 

“All the players buy into it and get themselves out to the supermarkets. There were about 50 bags full of chocolate we brought today which is great. The staff and families are very appreciative so it’s good we can give that to them.”

Play Support Worker, Nicky Crowther, said: “We’re really grateful to the Club for giving up their time to come and drop off some gifts for the children.”
