Winter Warrior takes off
Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are delighted to announce the return of the Winter Warrior training programme, with over 350 young fans having already signed up to the 2021 camp.
Six fantastic weeks of Saturday rugby coaching await our junior fans in the new year, with the Foundation providing a range of activities and training sessions to youngsters aged 9-16 – preparing players for the 2021 season and helping them reach their athletic potential.
Those who sign up will receive a free 2021 season ticket and a Winter Warrior training top.
Based at Robin Park Arena, the schedule will run between 9th January and 13th February and costs just £25 – if you book by 31st December 2020.

Groups
- 9am-10:30am: Girls Group 1: Under-11s – Under-16s (9th January – 13th February)
- 11am-12pm: Girls Group 2: Under-11s – Under-16s (9th January – 13th February)
- 1pm-2:30pm: Mixed Group: Under-9s – Under-11s (9th January – 13th February)
- 3pm-4:30pm: Boys: Under-12s – Under-14s (9th January – 13th February)
Community coach, Tom Marsh, said: “This has been the biggest in-take we’ve had in such a short turnaround. To have over 350 sign-ups in the first four days of it going live is fantastic – it is the most we’ve ever had for one camp.
“With everything that has happened this year, it is a great opportunity for young players to get back playing on the pitch and enhance their Rugby League skills.”
Wigan Warriors is one of the first Rugby League clubs to have introduced a new girls’ development pathway for 14-16-year-olds.
There are two groups on the Winter Warrior programme which cater for girls, providing a unique opportunity for players to progress and play for the Under-19s girls team and the Women’s first team.
Women’s captain and community coach, Rachel Thompson, said: “There is an opportunity now that wasn’t there before for girls. It’s testament to the work that the Club has done to reach out to girls who love and want to play Rugby League.
“It’s all about growing the game and the more we can do the better it will be for the future of Rugby League, especially with the World Cup coming up in 2021.”
