Isa: Bring another level

  • Willie Isa discusses the Grand Final and looking towards 2021.
  • Isa: “We’ve got to put it all together and I know we can step it up.”
  • 2021 Season to begin on March 11th.

Second row Willie Isa is optimistic that Wigan Warriors will learn from their Grand Final defeat to go one better in 2021.

The Cherry and Whites, who were pipped to the Betfred Super League trophy in dramatic fashion last week, will begin their pursuit of the 2021 title from March 11th when the new season gets underway.

Discussing the end to the season, Isa said: “I think since the return from lockdown, we had been really good, and we stepped it up another level there [in the Grand Final].

“We’ve just got to take it forward. We’ve got to bring that intensity and togetherness as a team and take it forward. We’ve then got to add five or ten per cent to it.”

With the hope that fans will be allowed to return to stadia in the 2021 season, the 31-year-old believes that the support of the Wigan faithful will help bring further energy to the squad.

“With crowds coming back in, I think that will naturally come. Players will enjoy it more and fans will bring another level to our intensity.

“We’re doing all we can to bring it and to satisfy the people watching on TV, which is obviously important in these times.

“We’ve got to put it all together and I know we can step it up another two, three or four levels above what we just did.”

After a long and unusual season for everyone, Isa in particular thanked the Wigan fans for their continued support throughout the difficult year.

“From me, I’d like to thank them. We see their messages; not all the boys can get back to you personally, but we are told by the Club staff of all the support we are being given throughout the town.

“Their routines are disturbed, having to sit and watch it on the TV. Usually, they will be there at the DW on a Friday night. Usually, they’d be at Old Trafford for the Grand Final supporting us.

“It’s a passionate town and I appreciate their support because it does push us on.

“I just need their extra support now because we’re in a situation where we need their support to take us to the next level.”
