Bibby: A win would be special

• The 24-year-old talks about playing in his second Semi Final in two seasons and how Wigan must be wary of their opponents.

Jake Bibby admits it would be ‘special’ to win the Betfred Super League with his hometown club as Wigan Warriors are just 80 minutes away from the Grand Final.

Adrian Lam’s side return to the DW Stadium on Friday night as they take on Hull FC in the Play-Off Semi Final.

For the first time in eight months, the Warriors will play on home soil as they look to reach this year’s Grand Final, which will be held at Hull’s KCOM Stadium.

Bibby is excited to play in his second Semi Final in as many years, after being part of the Salford Red Devils team that finished runners up last season.

“I am looking forward to it, as it will be quite special if I can win it with Wigan. I have been quite lucky, so hopefully it will be back-to-back Finals.

“We all know what to expect, we have leaders who have been there and have done it before. I don’t say too much about it, instead I just put my best foot forward and hopefully the younger ones can follow.”

The 24-year-old says that growing up and watching the Warriors going to Grand Finals was a highlight, and is excited to be part of that himself.

“For my dad it was all about getting to Wembley, but for me Old Trafford was the be all and end all. Growing up, it was all about watching Wigan in Play-Offs, and there is nothing else I’d rather be doing right now.”

After opponents Hull crept into Play-Off spots, Bibby expects them to give their all to get to the Grand Final.

“They are a tough team and it will be a hard game, but I believe the lads can do it. They’ve got a lot of big bodies around the park and have nothing to lose so will come in all guns blazing. We are not underestimating them, otherwise our season will be done.”
