Wigan Warriors Education are supporting adults in developing the skills to progress into sustainable employment via a free 12-week course – the perfect way to turn your free time in lockdown into a long-term career boost.
The ‘Essential Skills for Employment’ course is delivered through weekly classroom based and digital sessions over 12 weeks and is designed for you to both achieve and prepare you for the world of work.
With Wigan Warriors Education, you will work towards and complete nationally recognised Maths and English qualifications, achieving Functional Skills at Level 1 whilst also improving your employability skills through supported sessions. This course will develop both your academic and inter-personal skills to the levels expected by employers today.
Work Preparation
Employability Certificate provided by Centre

• Research skills
• ‘The Interview’
• Effective communication at interview
• Interview etiquette
• CV and application form writing
Core Functional Skills Development
Edexcel Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths (level dependent on each individual learner)
• To boost core skills to the minimum level expected by employers
• Achieve qualifications equivalent to new grade 3/4 in GCSE English/Maths
• Build self-confidence through enhanced core skills to help realise your potential
What will students need to commit to?
• Two half days per week over 12 weeks
• Digital based work per week
Recruitment will be on set dates throughout the year. Interested parties will need to apply either direct to Wigan Warriors Education (email education@wiganwarriors.com) or through their Job Centre advisor. Eligible applicants will be contacted directly and invited in.
Course Eligibility
• Active job seekers looking to improve their essential employment skills.
• 19+ year olds who are not already undertaking funded training.
• An ordinary resident in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man for three years prior to the date of sign up.
