Lam: Really resilient

Head Coach Adrian Lam praised the hard work and resilience of his Wigan side following their battling victory over Warrington on Friday evening.

Following wins for Leeds and Catalans, either Wigan or Warrington would fall out of the coveted top four places depending on the evening’s result.

The victory now lifts the Warriors into second spot in the Betfred Super League table.

Reacting to the win in his post-match press conference held via Zoom link, Lam explained how vital the win was – coming after a difficult seven days.

Lam speaking to the media via Zoom link.

“It was a big week for us with last week’s disappointment, so we couldn’t get to this game quick enough to play again.

“With the Covid issue, the lack of training and missing personal, you’re a little nervous coming into this one, but we were really resilient tonight.”

The win was certainly a hard-fought one, with the Papua New Guinean’s men having come from behind to win at Emerald Headingley Stadium.

On the win, Lam said: “I thought tonight we weren’t pretty but we hung in there, we were resilient and that’s back in the direction we want to be.”

Among the many good performances in Cherry and White on the night, debutant Brad Singleton showed why the Club snapped up the experienced prop-forward last month.

Highlighting Singleton’s performance, the boss said: “I was really pleased for Brad. He hasn’t played for a long time, so another four weeks playing will certainly help him and help us. I thought he gave us a little bit extra tonight.”

With a number of crucial games standing between Lam’s side and the end of the season, the Head Coach discussed the importance of Friday’s win providing the right momentum.

“These matches are really important to help us cement a spot in the top four. We’ve still got a long way to go, and with the games coming up it won’t get any easier.

“There’s still plenty to improve upon but I’m just really happy with the effort, energy and the fact they hung in there together.”
