Talking to Wigan TV this week, the 24-year-old discussed the road to the recovery and the delays caused by Covid-19.

“It’s very weird because I’ve not been out for this long before. With my shoulders freezing up for a little bit and the Covid stuff, it has just set me back, but we are finally here and ready to go.

“I was at home for four or five months, with a lack of gym equipment and physio treatment which meant everything I had built up was thrown away and kind of lost, so they didn’t want to risk it and throw me back in (the previous matchday squads).

“It was probably the right thing to do, and although it was pretty frustrating, I would rather be safe than sorry.”
