Wigan Head Coach Adrian Lam believes his side must approach Thursday’s tie against Hull KR with the “right attitude” as they prepare for their second game in five days.

The Cherry and Whites will travel to Emerald Headingley Stadium for the Betfred Super League clash, which will see 1st take on 11th.

Despite the distance between the two sides in the league table, Lam explained that he expects a tough battle on Thursday evening.

Adrian Lam speaking to the media via Zoom video link.

“There’s not too much pressure on them to win or lose but I think they are a happy bunch who have a crack on the field together.

“We’ve got to have the right attitude when we go there, that’s for sure. They’ve given us some real challenges in the recent past.”

How the two sides compare in 2020.

The swift turnaround will be the first of many for the Warriors in the condensed 2020 season. Highlighting this, Lam suggested that squad rotation would be vital to success.

“We will need to rotate the squad with so many games coming up, so I feel that we need to start doing that now.

“When the amount of games heat up, I know some clubs will be heavily affected by it. If we manage this process right we will have an advantage.”

The Head Coach provided a number of vital injury updates including that of winger Liam Marshall, who left the field vs Castleford last weekend with a suspected knee ligament injury.

“Liam will go and get a scan tomorrow so we are praying he’s ok. It doesn’t look great at the moment, but fingers crossed.”

Oliver Gildart in training.

Alongside Oliver Partington – who will be available after serving a four-match suspension – the boss said that Oliver Gildart will return for selection from a shoulder injury which has sidelined the 24-year-old since November 2019.

“The two Olivers are big parts of our team. Gildart is one of the best centres in the world at the moment and has been out for a long time, but is exactly what we need.”

There was also an update on prop forward George Burgess, who left the field as a precaution on Saturday by half time.

“George Burgess around half time got his leg pulled which impinged his hip, which has been an ongoing issue. He’s being looked at and and we will manage that over the next couple of weeks.”

Developments in the neck injury to forward Tony Clubb were also discussed. Lam said: “Tony Clubb has a vertebrae issue, it could be two or three months.”

The Warriors boss indicated that Club Captain Sean O’Loughlin would likely be available for next week’s trip to Catalans Dragons after struggling with a hamstring issue in recent weeks.
