Flower: Young lads are awesome

Prop forward Ben Flower was impressed by the young players around him as he returned to match action for Wigan Warriors on Saturday.

The 32-year-old scored a try on his first appearance in Cherry and White since the Betfred Super League restart and helped his side to a 30-22 victory over Castleford Tigers at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Speaking to Wigan TV after the win, the Welshman was full of admiration for the young players who lined up alongside him and expressed his joy to play his part in the team.

He said: “The young lads are just awesome. We have a lot of senior players out, so they’ve had to step up and they’ve done the job.

The 32-year-old is impressed by the job Wigan’s young players have done.

“Ethan (Havard) with 80 minutes today is credit to him and to how hard he works in training. It is not just him, there’s Byrney (Liam Byrne) and Morgan (Smithies).

On returning to the side, Flower said: “It’s good to be back. I do like to start, but I don’t mind coming off the bench, as long as I do my bit for the team – it’s all I can do.”
