Jackson Hastings says it will be a “proud moment” on Sunday when Wigan Warriors players take to the field wearing special embroidered shirt in support of Leeds legend Rob Burrow.

On Thursday, the Club announced that players will adorn a word each of them have chosen to describe Burrow – who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in December 2019 – alongside their name for Wigan’s Betfred Super League clash against Leeds at the Totally Wicked Stadium (6:30pm kick off).

The shirts will be auctioned off via the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation eBay page with all proceeds to be donated to the Rob Burrow Fund. Details of how to bid on the jerseys will be released in due course.

Speaking to Wigan TV this week, Hastings said: “It gave me goose bumps when it got released. It’s emotional talking about it but I’m very proud to be part of a special day.

“I know Leeds Rhinos are doing a lot for Rob, but for our Club, that has battled against him many times, it is a proud moment – to be able to represent him in a special way.

“There are certain people that play this game that impact it more than others, but the way Rob played was inspirational.

“With his height, stature and weight, to not only do it for Leeds Rhinos but for England and Great Britain too – you think about the people he had to come up and play against – it was like David and Goliath. Not once have I ever heard he complained – if anything he tortured people.

“For us as a club to be able to rally together – as a collective unit – and do this small gesture, I know it means the world to him.”

You can watch the rest of the interview with Jackson as he looks back on last week’s game, tells the story of his special boots that he wore and previews the Round 9 fixture with Leeds.
