  • Warriors get off to winning start in the Betfred Super League restart and Hardaker stresses the importance of building on the two points.

Zak Hardaker admits the Betfred Super League restart feels like pre-season mode and beginning a new season again.

Wigan’s No.1 scored a try, set up two and converted three goals on his 200th Super League appearance on Sunday afternoon as his side beat Wakefield Trinity.

Hardaker celebrates his try vs Wakefield.

Speaking to Wigan TV after the restart opener, the 28-year-old says the focus now is about building and improving on the 22-23 result at Emerald Headingley Stadium.

He said: “It’s just important to get the win – it’s like going back to pre-season and starting again. You want to build on wins and performances and that’s what we’ve got to do from today (Sunday).

“We played pretty well in patches. In the second half – towards the back ends of the sets – we didn’t finish very well. We kept turned the ball over cheaply, gave too many penalties away and were on the back foot defending our own line, but if there’s one positive we take from it – we defended our line really well.

“As Lammy (Adrian Lam) says – we’ve got things to work on. We’ve got a little turnaround now and we’ll focus on Leeds.”
