Over the next few weeks, we will take a look back at Wigan Warriors best matches ‘on this day’ from the last few years.
On this day (19th April 2013) the Warriors put in a convincing performance in the Challenge Cup, beating Leigh Centurions 60-10 at the DW Stadium.
Sam Tomkins went over four times while Josh Charnley and Pat Richards grabbed hat-tricks in the victory.
After just six minutes, Charnley broke the deadlock as he went over out wide.
The floodgates then truly opened, as in the space of five minutes Richards went over twice, while Tomkins got his first of the evening.
Leigh were able to pull one back through Rob Parker in the 18th-minute but it was a rare moment of light for the visitors.
Prior to the break, Tomkins wrapped up his hat-trick – going over just before the half hour mark and then again in the final moments before the hooter.
A minute into the second half, Charnley went over once again before later completing his treble in the 56th-minute.
Richards also wrapped up his hat-trick before Tomkins got a fourth.
A young George Williams, on his debut, was amongst the scorers as well – going over and then converting Wigan’s final try of the afternoon.
The visitors managed to get a late consolation as Ryan Brierley went over and the game ended 60-10.
