After only 52 seconds of play, Dom Manfredi opened the scoring to give Wigan an early 6-0 lead.
Saints soon bounced back with a try of their own through Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook, who went over in the 17th-minute.
Despite that, a missed conversion saw the visitors trailing by two points.
Both teams needed to battle hard with chances missed throughout the match.
With nine minutes of play left, the Warriors secured the two points as Joe Burgess got on the end of a George Williams grubber kick to touch down.
