Liam Marshall says Wigan have ‘done their homework’ as they prepare to go to the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday evening.

“When you go to Warrington the atmosphere is great, Wigan always take a good crowd down the road and the standing section of Warrington fans down the touchline is always packed. You get a bit of stick, as you do at other grounds but I think there’s that rivalry, and for them it is one of their big rivalries,” he said.

“We have St Helens but for them they don’t really have that and so look to us. It’s always a tough occasion, as it will be on Friday, you’ve got to silence the crowd with the way you play. The way they want to play rugby, if they get on a roll and the crowd is behind them, they’re tough to beat so we know what we need to do. Hopefully we can execute our game plan correctly and get a result on Friday night.”

Both sides come into the fixture on the back of two wins, Marshall explains: “Coming off the back of two wins they’ll be red hot and looking forward to coming up against us, as we are with them. Sometimes the form book can go out of the window in games like these and it’s whoever turns up on the night and grasps the occasion. We know what we need to do, we don’t underestimate them at all, we’ve done our homework this week and if we do the things we’ve spoken about in training and practiced then hopefully it’ll be enough to get the win.”

Marshall featured in Sunday’s game against Salford Red Devils as he returned from a hamstring injury: “It was good to get back out there and hopefully I can build on that going into this week against Warrington. I had no problems at all, it felt good and the training session earlier in the week was exciting going into the game, I’ve pulled through well and I thought I contributed well to the team so it’s just about building on it now and getting a run of games under my belt.”

The winger recognised that Field is leading the way on the try tally this year, but insists getting the results is the most important stat: “I’m a bit low this year on the tries but I’d take it for the way we have started the season and the results we’ve had. If it’s going to be Jai that scores them every week then as long as we’re getting the wins and I’m contributing in other aspects of the game then I’ll let him have those.”

He added: “I’ve got a decent record against Warrington so I might get a chance on Friday night but if we go there and get two points – whatever the score line is, I just want to get the win and get out of there.”
