We Need You

Wigan Warriors’ Official Energy Partner npower believes Wigan Warriors’ fans have Super Powers that can make a real difference to players on the pitch, with fan energy helping to drive player-performance.

We want to quantify this fan energy and establish when the “npower high-energy point” of the match occurs.

When is it that fans and players unite in their efforts, joining forces in the stands and on the pitch, to create the greatest impact for the Warriors? To determine this “npower high-energy point” of the match and investigate the link between fan energy and player performance, we have asked 50 fans to take part in our Wigan Warriors Super Powers campaign.

Playing in front of our home fans is always hugely motivating. It’s a real buzz when the stadium erupts and drives us forward as a team, as fans and players unite as one.

— Sam Tomkins

Over three Betfred Super League home games (v Huddersfield Giants 23 March, v Hull KR 2 April, v Castleford Tigers 20 April), npower have been measuring fans’ heart rates using Fitbits, as well as monitoring noise levels and social media chatter to see if we can quantify the impact of all the energy and passion you give in supporting your team.

This project is all about having fun, whilst also helping to provide a unique insight into the link between your support and your team’s performance.

Over the coming weeks, we will publish videos and graphs to outline the results we have found and will also enlist the help of Professor Greg Whyte OBE PhD DSc FBASES FACSM, the preeminent authority on Exercise Physiology and Sports and Exercise Performance in the UK, to analyse the data.

Check back here soon to see if Wigan Warriors fans really do have Super Powers!

May the (n)power be with you!
