Warriors Reserves to host Wakefield at the DW Stadium on Friday
Reserves game to kick-off at 5:45pm ahead of First Team game at 8pm
- Big night of Rugby League in store at the DW Stadium
Wigan Warriors Reserves will host Wakefield Trinity Reserves at the DW Stadium this Friday, 5:45pm kick-off.
The game will be a curtain-raiser to the First Team fixture with Wigan set to host Salford Red Devils in a Super League game at 8:00pm.
Warriors Head of Youth, Matty Peet, said: “We passionately believe in the Reserves game and I’m delighted that we are able to showcase a fixture at the DW Stadium on Friday.
“Reserves Rugby League is vital for the development of some players. Liam Marshall would not be a First Team player at Wigan now had we not had a reserves team.
“We’ve also seen the benefits of having a team this year with Morgan Escaré, Romain Navarrete and Gabe Hamlin all featuring for the side so far alongside other players who are too old for the Under-19s side but have yet to break into the First Team.
“These players have gone up alongside players like Joe Arundel, Max Jowitt and Chris Annakin – Wakefield players who all have good Super League experience.”
Wigan have played Wakefield, the only other Super League team to have a Reserves side, twice already this season including a 30-30 draw at Robin Park Arena.
“We’ve had a couple of tough games against Wakefield this year and Friday should be no different,” said Peet
“I know that Wigan fans will be keen to show their support and I’d urge anyone who can get down to the stadium a little earlier than usual to do so. We’ll be putting out a strong side who will want to impress.”
This great double header of Rugby League action takes place at the DW Stadium on Friday 4th May, tickets are now on sale and start from £22 for adults, £16 for concessions with juniors from £10. Members are entitled to £2 off adult tickets and £1 off concession and junior tickets.
