Talking to Trent

  • Warriors bump into Trent Barrett in Wollongong

  • Former Wigan player Barrett now head coach of Manly Sea Eagles

  • Warriors face Hull FC at Wollongong on Saturday

Whilst in Wollongong the Warriors have bumped into a familiar face with Trent Barrett and the Manly Sea Eagles staying in the same hotel.

The Sea Eagles are preparing for the new season and are spending a week in ‘The Gong’ fine-tuning some field work.

Wane and Barrett spent some time together this week and the Warriors Head Coach was delighted to see the former Wigan half-back.

“We have a great relationship with Trent,” he said.

“He’s told me what they do at Manly and I’ve had a chat about what we do at Wigan and tried to swap notes a bit and I’ve loads of respect for him.

“He’s in great shape! I’m sure he’s getting younger! He looks like he could still be playing.”

Barrett, 40, has been at the helm of the Sea Eagles for the past two seasons and guided them to sixth place last time out.

“It’s just a coincidence really, they’re in the same hotel and there’s a few guys here that I played with ten years ago,” Barrett said.

“Sean O’Loughlin still going, Tommy Leuluai is here and Shaun Wane was actually the Under-20’s coach when I was playing there.

“It’s good to see a few familiar faces and even getting around Wollongong and running into a few people I haven’t seen for a long time.”

Wigan face Hull FC at WIN Stadium on Saturday 10 February, tickets can be purchased HERE.

The Wigan Warriors and Hull F.C games in Wollongong and Sydney have been secured exclusively by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, in partnership with Destination Wollongong.
