- Warriors to honour all of the Australian players that have played for the club
- Cherry and Whites host special night at Star Casino
- Event is free to attend for supporters aged 20 and over
Wigan Warriors are to honour all of the Australian players that have played for the Cherry and Whites with a special night at Star Casino, Sydney on Tuesday 13th February.
The free event will begin at 8pm and see all of the Club’s former players from Australia meet to share memories of their time at Wigan.
Warriors Executive Director, Kris Radlinski, said: “To date 52 Australians have played for this great club and it is only right that we honour those guys during this tour.
“The list is a special one. From the likes of Gene Miles, Brett Kenny and Steve Ella through to Pat Richards, Trent Barrett and Matty Bowen, the Wigan Club is steeped in world-class Australian players who made their mark at club, origin and international level.
“I cant remember a bigger night in the Clubs history as we bring together the team of today with yesterdays heroes. It as been quite a journey for me as I have woken up each morning to e mails from Australian greats who have played for us.
“We all have our favourite Wigan Australian moment. What would mine be? Probably the Wigan v Brisbane game in 1994 when we beat the broncos on their home turf. I am sure that there will be many moments like this spoken about on this occasion.
“It promises to be an evening to remember as we honour these great players.”
The Warriors will wear a special one-off shirt for the historic International Double Header at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 17th February.
Radlinski said: “For the historic game against Souths the team will wear a unique jersey that will pay homage to these players. An alternative take on our 2018 kit, we’ll reveal this at the legends night and each legend will take one home. We’re thankful to everyone at Star Casino who we believe will be fantastic hosts for this special occasion.”
The Wigan Warriors Australian legends night takes place at the 24/7 Sports Bar @ THE STAR SYDNEY, 80 PYRMONT STREET, and is FREE to attend for fans ages 20 and over.
