Shaun Wane said he had seen enough to go home happy after Wigan ran in four tries to beat Leigh 22-14 in their pre-season fixture.
On the game:
“It’s the most satisfied I’ve been in the last few years of coming here to face Leigh in pre-season. We did some good things and some bad things but that’s to be expected in a friendly. We did enough good things that we’ve been practising on for me to go home happy.
“It was hard today because the conditions were so poor but we need to work more on our attacking sequences. We couldn’t do it today because the conditions were too bad and it was the same for Leigh, they’re a good footballing side but neither of us could do what we really wanted to.
“It was a good hit-out, Leigh are a good team and I think they’ll kill that league (the Championship). They’re big and physical, it was a good test.”
On try-scorers Gabe Hamlin and Jake Shorrocks:
“There’s a few things he (Gabe) can improve on with his carries but overall I was happy with what he did.
“I was chuffed when Jake scored that try, you could tell all of the players were too! It was a nice play, he’s a talent is Jake and I just hope he can get some game time this year.”
On Micky Higham who played his final ever game:
“I’ve worked with Micky, he’s a fantastic fella. We had him in the changing room after the game and presented him with a gift. He did a lot for Wigan and he’s done a lot for Rugby League and we’re all Rugby League fans. I appreciate what he’s done, he was a bit choked speaking to our players then, I’m glad we did it as he’s a fantastic player and bloke.”
Updating on any injuries from the game:
“Budgie (Joe Burgess) knocked his hip, he’ll be ok in a couple of days. George (Williams) broke his nose, Jack Wells rolled his ankle but that doesn’t look like anything serious. There’s nothing you wouldn’t expect from a rugby game!”
