2017 World Champions
As 2017 draws to a close and 2018 edges ever closer we take a look back on the year that was and look forward to the year ahead.
Caine Barnes, Samy Kibula, Craig Mullen, Liam Paisley, Oliver Partington, Josh Woods and James Worthington have all been handed professional contracts ahead of the 2018 season.
Half-back, Josh Woods, steps up having featured twice for the first team in 2017.
James Worthington, 18, also featured for the First Team and scored two tries on debut at Centre. He also scored 12 tries in 17 games for the Under-19s in 2017.
Liam Paisley featured regularly for Swinton Lions in 2017 on dual-registration and toured Australia with England Academy last year. For the Under-19s he scored 9 tries in 12 appearances.
A regular for the Academy in 2017, Craig Mullen played 17 games and was named Riversiders Academy Player of the Year.
Front-rower Samy Kibula, the youngest of the seven, is another England Academy player. Kibula scored 12 tries in 17 games for the Under-19s in 2017.
Caine Barnes, a prop, played for Swinton in their Challenge Cup giant killing last season and has also represented England.
England forward Oliver Partington started 13 of his 15 games for the Under-19s last season and has been handed a professional contract.
Of the 32 players to represent Wigan in 2017, 22 have come through the Club’s Academy.
