2017 World Champions
As 2017 draws to a close and 2018 edges ever closer we take a look back on the year that was and look forward to the year ahead.
Wigan skipper Sean O’Loughlin earned even more plaudits in 2017 as he continued to put in performances of the highest quality.
Prior to 2017 the skipper had won seven major honours with Wigan and played in a further six finals.
Make that eight major honours! The skipper was on top form as Wigan beat Cronulla to win the World Club Challenge.
O’Loughlin made 26 appearances for the Warriors in 2017 including his 400th as he became only the 11th player in Wigan’s history to reach the landmark.
In May he skippered England to a 30-10 win over Samoa and even Prince Harry wanted to him!
He was almost unplayable in the September Derby win over St Helens.
The Rugby League media agreed as the skipper made his sixth appearance in the Super League Dream Team.
The Wigan players and fans agreed too as he took the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.
O’Loughlin signed a new deal with the Warriors at the end of the campaign.
Following the conclusion of the season he travelled Down Under to lead England at the Rugby League World Cup.
