Six Wigan players featured at the Rugby League World Cup over the weekend.
Sean O’Loughlin and John Bateman were again in the starting line up for England with George Williams amongst the substitutes as England overcame a France side featuring Romain Navarrete thanks to a fine first half performance at Perth Rectangular stadium.
Wigan’s England trio could line up against the Lachlan Lam, son of former Warriors scrum half Adrian when they face Papua New Guinea in the quarter finals.
Earlier in the day at the same ground. Micky Mcilorum started at hooker for Ireland setting up an early try for Api Pewhairangi as the Wolfhounds defeated Wales 34-6.
In Group B, Tommy Leuluai was restored to the starting line up but could not prevent New Zealand from falling to a surprise 28-22 loss to Tonga in Hamilton. Meanwhile, Steve McCormack’s Scotland narrowly missed out on a spot in the quarter finals following their 14-14 draw with Samoa.
Elsewhere, Australia, Fiji and Lebanon all booked their places in the first knockout round.
