Chorley Schools Outreach Work

Since the start of the school year, Wigan Warriors Community Foundation have been delivering Rugby League sessions in Chorley secondary schools.

Parklands, St Michaels, Holy Cross and Southlands have received a wide variety of sessions ranging from school team training, girls delivery and GCSE specific training.

Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students have then gone on to participate in Rugby League festivals held in Chorley and we must take this opportunity to thank all P.E staff who have supported the events and also the coaches from Chorley Panthers ARLFC who have also shown great support.

Speaking about the partnership, PE teacher, Chris Kohler from St Michaels High School said:

“On Chorley Schools “I’m delighted with commitment from Chorley Schools to grow the game in this borough. Providing the opportunity to play Rugby League is what it’s all about. I hope we can continue this momentum & build something special.”

On St Michaels, he added:

“The enthusiasm and commitment to training shown by every student is immense. It makes my job even better when students just want to improve their skills week in week out”

Additionally, Stephen Rimmer from Parklands High School said:

“It’s great to see some many pupils from Chorley enjoying playing the sport of Rugby League and representing their schools. Hopefully we can encourage more and more students to join a local community club”

Wigan Warriors Community Development Officer, Joel Smith added: “It is absolutely brilliant to see Rugby League thriving in the Chorley schools. I would personally like to thank all the P.E teachers for their efforts and also thank Chorley Panthers who have been down to support most of our festivals. It’s great to see our sport growing and the talent shown by the performers has been fantastic to see. The England Talent Pathway link between the schools and the sport of Rugby League has been really beneficial. Our next goal is to have more young people joining community clubs in the area and grow our game.”

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are committed to delivering high quality Rugby League sessions in are around the borough, if you want to book or enquire about what is on offer please feel free to contact us.
