Liam Marshall and Tom Davies shortlisted for Albert Goldthorpe Medal
Wing duo nominated after fine seasons
- Award given by League Express with Sam Tomkins, John Bateman and Joe Burgess all previous winners
Wigan duo Liam Marshall and Tom Davies have been nominated for the 2017 Albert Goldthorpe Medal for Rookie of the Year.
Awarded by League Express, the Rookie of the Year Medal recognises the standout players who have made a mark in Super League for the first time this season, with all players shortlisted having made fewer than ten appearances before the start of the campaign.
Previous winners include Sam Tomkins (2009), John Bateman (2012 – with Bradford) and Joe Burgess (2014).
This year eight players have been shortlisted with Marshall and Davies leading the way for Wigan alongside the likes of Kriss Brinning (Salford Red Devils), Regan Grace (St Helens), Darnell McIntosh (Huddersfield Giants), Danny Richardson (St Helens), Danny Walker (Widnes Vikings) and Jack Walker (Leeds Rhinos).
Both Liam Marshall and Tom Davies debuted for Wigan in 2017.
Marshall, 21, has impressed with a string of try-scoring appearances and averages a try a game having featured 23 times for the Warriors crossing for 23 tries.
Davies, 20, has made a name for himself with many hardworking runs that have seen him make 2899 metres – the seventh highest in the league this season. To date, he has made 21 appearances scoring 12 tries.
