As part of its strategic direction to promote club Rugby League on the national and international stage, Wigan Warriors have entered into an official Tourism and Destination Partnership with the New South Wales Government, via tourism agencies Destination New South Wales and Destination Wollongong, in order to facilitate a three-match tour of the region in February 2018.
Wigan Warriors and Hull FC will create history when they compete in the first ever official Super League game outside of Europe on February 10th at WIN Stadium in Wollongong. The following week, the two English clubs will then take part in the first ever double-header fixture between Super League and NRL teams at a single venue when Wigan face South Sydney Rabbitohs and Hull FC play St George Illawarra Dragons at ANZ Stadium, Sydney on Saturday 17 February 2018.
Regarded as one of the most innovative and exciting initiatives in the history of Wigan Rugby League Club, the tour is designed to deliver on a number of elements including; tourism and destination profiling, facilitation of International trade and investment opportunities, explore economic development elements within the respective sectors and promote the respective regions on the global stage with the objective of establishing a relationship between two passionate and successful Rugby League heartlands.
With two of the game’s most high profile and best supported clubs spending two spend two weeks in the State, the joint partnership between Wigan Rugby League and strategic sponsors Destination NSW and Destination Wollongong, will make a significant contribution to the New South Wales economy, both in Sydney and in the region of Wollongong, with close to 5,000 interstate and overseas visitors expected to travel injecting more than $7 million into the local visitor economy.
