Giant Test

  • Under-19’s centre James Barran says Wigan will need to be strong through the middle against Huddersfield Giants today

  • Warriors play Huddersfield Giants in the Under-19s Academy League at the Fairhurst Accountants Community Stadium in Orrell today, 2pm kick-off

  • Wigan TV to stream the game LIVE to subscribers

Under-19s centre James Barran says Wigan will be tested by the size of Huddersfield Giants when they square off on Saturday.

The Warriors won convincingly 54-16 against the Giants earlier in the season at Lockwood Park, with Barran starting at centre that day.

Barran says Wigan will need to be tough through the middle if they are to get the two points over Huddersfield on Saturday.

“Huddersfield are known for being a big side,” he said. “But we are going into the game on the back of a good win in France last week so that will stand us in good stead.

“They have got a strong middle in Matty English, he has made a few Super League appearances this season so obviously we have got to watch out for him and their half-back Izaac Farrell has played First Team as well so it will be a good test for us.

“We expressed ourselves against Catalans last week and we want to do the same again.

“The atmosphere is pretty good in training at the moment. Matty (Peet) said he was pleased with us last week to go over to France and win 40-10 because it was quite a strong performance but we want to back it up and get the two points this weekend.”

Barran is likely to come up against former teammate and good friend Olly Russell when the sides lock horns, with the latter moving to Huddersfield from Wigan earlier in the campaign.

“I’ve never actually played against him,” Barran added.

“I’ve always played alongside him whether that be all the way through junior level with (Oldham) St Anne’s or in the Academy at Wigan so it’ll be quite strange playing against him but it should be good.”

The game takes place at the Fairhurst Accountants Community Stadium, Orrell, kicking-off at 2pm. 2017 Season Ticket Holders and Members are entitled to free entry to the game with Adults £5 and Concessions £3.

Wigan TV subscribers can watch the game LIVE from 2pm.
