Under-19s utility-back Craig Mullen says the Warriors want to lay down a marker by beating the City of Hull Academy to stay top of the table tonight.

Wigan displaced Castleford at the top of the Under 19s table after beating the Tigers 40-20 last weekend.

Darrell Goulding’s side are in good form having won their last six but Mullen says they need to back their form up against Hull to send a statement of intent to other teams in the competition.

On the rearranged fixture, Mullen said: “It’s a mentality shift for us because we were expecting to play them earlier in the year.

“Playing them on a Thursday night the week after beating top of the league in Castleford makes it a tough test plus the short turnaround will be a challenge for us too but we’re looking forward to it.

“It was good to go top of the league last weekend but we were a bit disappointed with our defence because we conceded 20 points. We pride ourselves on our defence so it needs to be better against Hull and we’re aiming to put in an 80 minute performance this week.

“Hopefully we can get the two points so we can send a real message out to the rest of the league.”

The City of Hull Academy currently sit in mid-table having had a mixed season so far recording five wins, one draw and four defeats from their ten games so far. Mullen insists they will be ready for the Warriors.

“They had a dip in form last year before playing us but they never undersell themselves against us and this game last year ended a draw,” the former Blackbrook Royals junior said.

“We’re expecting to see a strong Hull side. Jez Litten from Hull FC is a tricky player, Will Oakes has played for the Hull KR First Team, Will Jubb is good at hooker too and they have a big pack which will look to trouble us through the middle but it should be a good game.”

Unfortunately due to filming restrictions the game cannot be shown live on Wigan TV but updates will be available throughout the night on Twitter HERE.
