Academy Game Live on Facebook

  • Warriors v Saints Academy game to be broadcast LIVE on Facebook

  • Wigan host St Helens Under-19s at Fairhurst Accountants Stadium on Sunday

  • Game to be broadcast live for first time on popular social networking site

Wigan TV will stream this weekend’s Under-19s game against St Helens LIVE on Facebook.

The Warriors’ online TV channel have teamed up with the popular social networking site to bring Sunday’s Academy Derby to fans live, 2pm kick-off.

This year has seen Wigan TV broadcast a number of Academy and Reserve games live to subscribers and to showcase the quality of the service, which now includes a match clock and live scoreboard, this game will be free on Facebook.

Last month’s Under-19s fixture with London Broncos was due to be shown on Facebook only for the game to be postponed.

Video Production Manager Stewart Frodsham said: “We’ve been live streaming academy games on Wigan TV this year and it’s certainly proved popular with subscribers.

“In previous years it’s been cost prohibitive to stream games but with newer technology becoming available we’re now able to keep the costs more manageable.”

Subscribers to Wigan TV can expect to see around 25 games streamed live this year, including U16s, U19s and Reserves matches.

Most matches played at the Fairhurst Accountants Stadium will be shown live with selected away matches where facilities and connectivity are suitable.
