As part of World Club Challenge week, Wigan Warriors delivered a series of events to ensure the Club received support from the commercial sector in both the North West and London.
Several successful events took place in the lead-up to the Warriors clash against NRL Premiers Cronulla Sharks including a Business Club event in Manchester, an invite-only event at the Australian High Commission in London and a sell-out gala dinner at the DW Stadium.
Wigan Warriors Director and Rugby General Manager Kris Radlinski commented,
“As a Club we fully understand the importance of the World Club Challenge and the opportunity to engage a range of sectors including the Manchester and London business communities.
“Each of our events were well-received and we look forward to building upon these relationships in the coming months to ensure the continued commerical development of the Club.”
Firstly, on Monday evening, Wigan Warriors partnered with leading global services provider KPMG and pro-manchester, the largest business development organisation in the North West, to provide Wigan Warriors Business Club Members and the Manchester business community with an insight into the Business of Rugby League.
The event was hosted by Sky Sports’ Brian Carney with Wigan Owner and Chairman Ian Lenagan and Director Kris Radlinski providing an intimate view of what it takes to run one of the most decorated sports brands in the world and the business principles applied to ensure constant growth and success of the Club.
The Club then travelled to London on Wednesday for an event in partnership with the Australian High Commission hosted by Deputy High Commissioner for Australia Mr Matt Anderson PSM. Brian Carney again conducted an excellent evening with Ian Lenagan and Kris Radlinski who were joined by Cronulla Sharks Group CEO Lyall Gorman and Brisbane Broncos General Manager of Marketing and Commercial Operations Terry Reader.
With a range of topics covered, including high performance, commercial operations, community engagement and the future growth of the game, attendees from the London business community and government sector were treated to an exclusive evening with four of the sport’s leading administrators.
Thursday evening saw the week’s activities return to Wigan where we celebrated the much anticipated game at a sold-out World Club Challenge Dinner at the DW Stadium. Over 380 guests heard from Wigan Owner and Chairman Ian Lenagan, Cronulla Sharks Group CEO Lyall Gorman, Wigan Coach Shaun Wane and Cronulla counterpart Shane Flanagan and current and former players on the importance of the game and what it means to both teams.
After an exciting week of events, Wigan fans, including over 1000 hospitality guests, were treated to a fantastic victory against the NRL Premiers, completing a series win for Super League whilst Wigan, the most decorated Rugby League Club in the world, returned to their famed position – World Club Champions.
